My client was swirling in confusion. She had a big decision to make and instead of getting clarity on what to do, she was confused.
Is there confusion in your life today?
You’re in the right place.
Here’s why confusion is NOT the opposite of clarity - confusion, if we stay with it, will take us to clarity.
Confusion is full of thoughts. Most of them don’t feel good. We tend to think “worse case scenario” thoughts, self-critical thoughts and “It won’t work for me” thoughts.
Here’s the good news. Once we identify the thoughts, we use those thoughts to find the clarity we’re looking for.
Here’s how to do it. Write down the thoughts you’re having when you’re feeling confused. Keep it simple. The thoughts might be something like:
“I don’t know what to do.”
“It won’t work for me.”
“I may not have enough money.”
Now, take a few deep breaths to slow down your nervous system. You are intentionally opening yourself to a new perspective so this is not the time to be stubborn or resistant!
Take each thought and ask yourself, “Is that 100%, no matter what, true?”
I promise you, the thought isn’t. Even a thought like, “I don’t know what to do” might be true right this second but, it may not be true tomorrow. You could get new information that will make things clear. So, take that opening. Turn the thought into something that allows for a little more possibility, like, “I will know what to do by the time I need to.”
Our mind is a habit making machine and the thoughts that cause confusion are habits - thoughts you think frequently. They are also the thoughts that hold you back and keep you in stress. When you change your thoughts, you change the habit.
