The Gratitude Buster

Are you feeling grateful today?

Don’t worry if you aren’t. I know we’re all supposed to feel grateful, but most of us have something that puts a damper on our gratitude meter.

That’s okay.

I’ve got a Gratitude Buster.

Bust through whatever has you concerned, distracted, stressed or riddled with anxiety. Here’s the strategy:

Write it down. Sounds old fashioned, but it works. Get it on paper.

Write down the top three feelings that come to mind when you think of this damn thing. It might be despair, shame, hopelessness, whatever it is, be honest with yourself. You deserve that. Three feelings.

Take the piece of paper and tear it up, trash it, burn it, feed it to the squirrels, I don’t care, just get rid of it. Totally. Out of the house. It’s gone.

Give yourself permission, just for today, not to think about this damn problem and the feelings that you wrote on that paper. Just today. You can take them back tomorrow if you want. Give yourself one day of vacation from all of it.

Imagine your life without the problem. How would your life change? What are the top three feelings that you feel now? Write those down. Put that list on the fridge.

Now, spend the rest of the day, basking in those three feelings you just wrote down. The ones you’ll feel when the problem is over.

That’s the new you. That’s how you can feel today. Enjoy it. Don’t worry that the problem isn’t actually gone. You’ll deal with that tomorrow. And who knows… a solution might even come to mind today, while you’re basking in all the good feelings of your new you.

xoxo,
